Three rehabbing players — Parker Meadows, José Urquidy and Alex Cobb — joined the Tigers clubhouse before the Mets series opener. Parker Meadows has completed five Triple-A rehab games, hitting .250 with four walks and 10 strikeouts in 20 plate appearances and starting four times in center field. Meadows has not played for Detroit since July 27 and could be activated for the Sept. 5 opener or, more likely, Sept. 6 against a left-handed starter. Manager A.J. Hinch reported Meadows feels the best his body has since the injury and is showing strong defensive effort; offensive timing may return upon his big-league return. Updates were also given on relievers Paul Sewald and others in camp.
"Parker has been pretty good," Hinch said. "He said this is the best his body has felt. We're going series by series, but he's playing with freedom."
