MLB tests robot umpires during spring training. Here's what to know
Briefly

Major League Baseball is trialing an Automated Ball-Strike System (ABS) during spring training after successful minor league tests. This system uses stadium cameras to monitor pitches and aid umpires by indicating whether a pitch is a ball or strike. Starting in 2024, a challenge system will allow teams to contest two calls per game, with retained challenges on success. This innovation aims to enhance accuracy while keeping traditional umpire roles intact. Initial testing occurs in 13 spring training venues across Florida.
