Rays Re-Sign Logan Driscoll To Minor League Deal
Briefly

Tampa Bay re-signed catcher Logan Driscoll to a minor league contract after releasing him a couple weeks earlier. Driscoll has been battling an ankle injury and has not played this year; the Rays wanted to remove him from the 40-man roster without paying an MLB salary. A former second-round pick by the Padres, Driscoll was acquired in a 2020 trade for Emilio Pagán and has spent six seasons in the system. He made a brief major-league appearance last season (15 games, .171 average, one home run) and has hit .287/.362/.460 in 370 Triple-A plate appearances at Durham. Nick Fortes and Hunter Feduccia are the only catchers on the 40-man roster; Matt Thaiss, Tres Barrera and Dominic Keegan are active at Triple-A. The club must decide this offseason whether to add Keegan to the 40-man roster or expose him to the Rule 5 draft.

Nick Fortes and Hunter Feduccia are splitting the major league catching reps. They're now the only two catchers on the 40-man roster. Matt Thaiss, Tres Barrera and Dominic Keegan are all active for Triple-A Durham. Thaiss would probably be the choice if either Feduccia or Fortes suffer an injury before the end of the season. Tampa Bay will need to decide this offseason whether to add Keegan to the 40-man roster or expose him to the Rule 5 draft.
