Edgar Davids discusses his collaboration with artist Paul Pfeiffer, recreating the intense atmosphere of the tunnel prior to a football match for the Manchester International Festival's 'Football City, Art United.' Curated by Hans Ulrich Obrist and Josh Willdigg, the exhibition aims to unite disparate worlds, emphasizing the importance of connection through art and sport. Visitors will experience an immersive tunnel with live crowd noise recorded from a Milan derby, highlighting the psychological experience of players just before they step onto the pitch.
Even more so than being on the field itself, the moment of greatest tension occurs in the tunnel just before players walk out to face the crowd.
It’s now more important than ever to bring things together; we must connect worlds that wouldn’t necessarily talk to each other, and it’s exciting to do it with sport.
