Despite MCP's popularity, Docker notes that its integration with tools is still not production-ready due to fragmented discovery and inadequate security measures. The Catalog will help streamline tool discovery, while the Toolkit will simplify management of MCP servers, thereby addressing critical challenges faced by developers in building agentic applications.
Docker executives wrote in a blog post that discovery of tools is fragmented and core capabilities like security and authentication are still patched together with workarounds.
Paul Chada, co-founder of DoozerAI, stated that current MCP servers are messy client-side installs that are not true enterprise-grade solutions.
