Real estate marketing in a post-Google (search) world
Google announced the biggest Search overhaul since launch at its I/O conference, shifting from ranked website links to a conversational, AI-driven experience powered by Gemini. Search will increasingly deliver AI-powered interactive experiences instead of only a list of links, using tools that dispatch “information agents” to gather information for users. A new search box supports longer, more conversational queries, and results will create custom widgets and visualizations based on user questions. Website links will remain but become secondary. AI Overviews have already reduced traffic to websites, with Ahrefs finding position-one click-through rates falling from 7.3% to 1.6% for queries triggering AI Overviews, while Similarweb reported zero-click searches rising from 56% to nearly 69% by May. Real estate and local services may be less affected because such queries are less likely to trigger AI summaries, since users often search for specific providers rather than general information.
