HBO Max and Paramount+ to Be Merged Into Single Streaming Service
"As we said, we do plan to put the two services together, which today gives us a little over 200 million direct to consumer subscribers. We do plan for that to be able to operate with independence, so that HBO can, candidly, do what it does incredibly well."
"Our viewpoint is HBO should stay HBO. They built a phenomenal brand. They are a leader in the space, and we just want them to continue doing more of it. But by bringing the platforms together, all of our content will be able to reach even a broader audience than we can do standalone."
Paramount CEO David Ellison announced that HBO Max and Paramount+ will consolidate into one streaming platform once Paramount completes its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery. The merger will unite over 200 million direct-to-consumer subscribers. HBO Max has experienced multiple rebrands since its 2020 launch and has been owned by different companies throughout its history. Despite the consolidation, Ellison emphasized that HBO will operate as an independent entity within Paramount, preserving its distinct brand identity and operational autonomy. The integration aims to expand content reach across a broader audience while allowing HBO to continue excelling in its core competencies.
