'Not fit for purpose' health centre in Upminster closed down
Briefly

Upminster Medical Centre, under the East London NHS Foundation Trust, closed after being deemed unfit for purpose almost a year after the contract began. Patients were notified of the closure and options for registering with other practices. Rainham Health Centre is currently managing a growing patient list, which has raised concerns from patient participation group chair Fay Hough regarding the ability to accommodate new patients amid existing staffing shortages. NHS North East London is assessing the impact of this closure on patient care and staffing.
"Unfortunately, shortly after the contract award, it was recognised that the Upminster premises were not fit for purpose and therefore the decision was made to close that site."
"We already have 6,000 plus patients on our books. We simply cannot take (any) more. We do not have enough doctors."
"With the closure of the Upminster site and a possible reduction in patient list size, ELFT is currently assessing the potential impact on staffing levels."
"Our priority is ensuring that all patients at the Rainham Health Centre have continued access to necessary healthcare services, despite these changes."
