Opioid painkillers put millions at risk of addiction or dependency study

The study found one in three prescribed opioid analgesics shows symptoms of dependency, and one in 10 become fully dependent, with one in eight at risk of misuse.

Opioids are not effective for long-term pain management, leading to dependency. In the US and England alone, over 20 million may be taking opioid painkillers.
