Moen began her college journey in 2021 but faced challenges, including a cancer diagnosis, which led her to leave and later re-enroll in 2024. With the aid of a private scholarship, she now juggles a full course load in social and human services while homeschooling her daughter. Although she has maxed out her financial aid, she remains committed to entering the mental health field, aiming for an associate degree and continuing to a bachelor's. The journey ahead includes significant internships and further education.
"The money is not the most important part to me," Moen said. "I'm doing it because I want to be able to add to this lacking workforce. I know that we don't have enough so I will be one extra person to help."
If all goes according to plan, she's set to graduate with an associate degree in social and human services in January, at which point she hopes to transfer to either Cal State Chico or Humboldt and pursue a bachelor's degree.
