Mental health services are beset by complex and profound problems | Letters
Briefly

NHS clinicians work under constraints of rationing and scarcity, where the emphasis on efficiency overshadows patient care, creating a culture that fails to address serious mental health needs.
The desire for quick patient turnover makes clinicians treat admissions as failures, while the fragmentation of services obscures the consequences of their decisions regarding patient care.
Respecting patient autonomy is essential, yet when patients suffer from psychosis, this autonomy can be severely distorted, complicating how treatment is approached and providing a challenge for psychiatrists.
Legislation and guidelines alone cannot solve the underlying issues of resource allocation and service culture that persistently hinder effective treatment for severe mental illness.
