Can this maternity ward be saved? Doctors, nurses sound alarm at a Miami-area hospital
Briefly

Victoria Valdes, a nurse at Palmetto General Hospital in Hialeah, fears for the future of the hospital's only labor and delivery unit as management discusses cost-cutting measures. After the termination of a partnership with a doctor staffing company, Dr. Roberto Fojo revealed that executives hinted at closing the unit. Valdes, pregnant with twins and requiring specialized care, worries about finding an alternative place for delivery. Other medical service providers at the hospital are also discontinuing services due to ongoing payment issues with current management, further complicating maternity care at Palmetto General.
Valdes, the Palmetto nurse who is nearly 26 weeks pregnant, expressed her fear about the potential closure of the maternity unit, stating, 'if the maternity unit closes, I have no idea where I will give birth.'
Dr. Roberto Fojo highlighted a grave warning from an executive, claiming, 'one of the hospital’s top executives threatened to close the unit during a discussion with several physicians.'
