Newman-Scott, who will start on Jan. 21, brings over two decades of multidisciplinary arts experience to the role. She joins Knight from the Jerome L. Greene Performance Art Space at New York Public Radio/WNYC, where she served as the inaugural executive director. As a Jamaican-born artist turned arts leader, she has held numerous high-profile roles, including president of BRIC in Brooklyn and Connecticut's director of culture since moving to the United States in 2005.
'Knight Foundation is an industry-leading funder within the arts, with a proven track record of meaningful and sustainable impact for the populations it serves,' Newman-Scott said in a press release. 'I'm thrilled to join an organization with such a clear devotion to this work and a rich history of results.'
Newman-Scott will lead Knight's arts funding strategy and oversee its expansive arts portfolio, which Knight has invested more than $466 million since 2005. The foundation's programs, including Knight New Work and Knight Art + Tech Expansion, support artists and organizations in eight cities where the Knight brothers once published newspapers.
Kristina's passionate belief in the power of the arts to build and strengthen community is inspiring. She deeply understands the positive role that arts can play in society.
