Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced a major restructuring of the county's climate change department, merging three key roles and reducing staff by two-thirds to enhance efficiency. This initiative is part of her "WISE 305" strategy aimed at cutting bureaucracy and addressing climate challenges cohesively. The budget concerns for 2026, stemming from cooling real estate and the cessation of federal COVID funding, have prompted these changes, including eliminating high-salaried positions like the Chief Resilience Officer and Chief Heat Officer.
My administration is taking a fresh approach to our resilience efforts in order to break down siloes across County portfolios and accelerate progress on critical solutions to build a future-ready Miami-Dade.
The changes come as Levine Cava is warning of a challenging budget for 2026, as Miami-Dade faces a cooling real estate market and the end of federal COVID dollars.
