Miami International Airport will reintroduce the SunPass system later this year, allowing travelers to bypass traditional payment methods at parking garages. SunPass was previously removed in early 2022 due to persistent malfunctions that resulted in delays and a significant financial impact. The Miami-Dade Aviation Department has confirmed that the underlying issues have been resolved. Nonetheless, travelers should be aware that parking fees have increased by 47% since 2022, with the daily rate now at $25, aligning with prices at other major airports.
After a three-year hiatus, SunPass is set to return to Miami International Airport later this year, providing an additional parking payment option alongside QuickPay in the garages.
MIA ceased using SunPass in early 2022 due to frequent malfunctions and outages, which caused significant delays and overbilling issues, costing the state approximately $50 million.
Miami-Dade Aviation Department CEO confirmed that the issues with SunPass have been resolved, and the system will be reinstalled by the end of the year.
Despite the return of SunPass, parking fees at MIA have increased by 47% since 2022, rising from $17 to $25 per day.
