Following recent severe outages, power has been restored to approximately 80% of affected households, businesses, and farms, down from a peak of 768,000. While the ESB anticipates that most will have power back by Friday, around 100,000 will see gradual restoration next week. Technicians from various countries are on-site assisting, while caution is urged due to dangerous conditions around fallen wires. Concurrently, 7,500 properties still lack water, with generators aiding supply for a larger number until full restoration is achieved.
If you come across fallen wires or damaged electricity network, never, ever touch or approach these as they are LIVE and extremely dangerous. Please report any damage to electricity infrastructure by calling 1800 372 999.
Our priority now is to ensure the restoration of electricity to our plants and pumping stations that are running on generators or remain without power because connection to a generator is simply not possible.
The ESB has reiterated a message asking the public to exercise caution and said it had been made aware of several instances of potentially dangerous incidents where members of the public have unknowingly approached fallen electricity infrastructure.
The ESB has said 'the vast majority' of people who lost power will have supply back by this Friday, as many as 100,000 customers will progressively have power restored over the course of next week.
