The violence in Haiti's capital saw over 200 people killed in one weekend, primarily targeting Vodou practitioners by a gang leader convinced they cursed his son.
According to the CPD, the gang's soldiers were tasked with locating victims in their homes, taking them to their stronghold for execution, reflecting the brutality of this massacre.
UN rights commissioner Volker Turk reported that these killings have contributed to a staggering 5,000 deaths in Haiti just this year amid ongoing unrest and escalating violence.
The violence appears targeted at the elderly, as the CPD noted that most victims were over 60, with young individuals also perishing while attempting rescues.
