Amanda Knox's slander conviction upheld by Italy's top court DW 01/24/2025
Briefly

On January 24, 2025, Italy's highest court upheld Amanda Knox's conviction for slander related to her 2007 murder trial involving her flatmate Meredith Kercher. Knox had implicated local barman Patrick Lumumba during police questioning. While the ruling surprised Knox and her lawyer, who labeled it unjust, Lumumba welcomed the verdict. Knox, already acquitted of murder in 2015, stated via social media that it felt surreal to be convicted again. Rudy Guede, convicted for the actual murder, has completed his sentence but the slander conviction continues to affect Knox’s life.
This is totally unexpected in our eyes and totally unjust for Amanda.
Amanda was wrong. This verdict has to accompany her for the rest of her life.
This verdict has no real implications for Knox, who already spent years in prison for Kercher's murder.
