Amtrak has become the latest organization to dismantle its diversity, equity, and inclusion programs after new Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy mandated the removal of DEI activities in federal agencies. This follows an executive order by President Trump that terminated all DEI initiatives, influenced by the recent Supreme Court decision on affirmative action in college admissions. Amtrak's commitment to diversity, which included a 55% promotion rate for diverse talent, is now being replaced by a focus on cultivating a workplace culture for everyone, as depicted in a memo from its CEO.
Duffy followed orders from President Donald Trump, who signed an executive order on Jan. 23 that terminated all DEI programs, policies, and activities within the federal government.
Some of Amtrak's diversity-related verbiage has already been scrubbed off the company website. In its replacement, a message from CEO Stephen Gardner appears, stating the company is "cultivating a workplace culture that welcomes everyone."
