Autistic child in Wandsworth denied school transport
Briefly

Wandsworth Council has issued a public apology for the mishandling of school transport arrangements for an autistic child, acknowledging their failure to consider the child’s individual needs.
The Ombudsman found significant faults, including the council's lack of consent from Mr. Y before proposing a Travel Assistance Budget, undermining the child's specific requirements outlined in their EHCP.
In response to the Ombudsman’s findings, the council has committed to reassess the transport application with a renewed focus on the child’s Special Educational Needs and existing family circumstances.
To rectify the situation, Wandsworth Council plans to formally apologize and compensate Mr. Y, while ensuring future decisions are made with proper documentation and consideration of individual circumstances.
