Avowed review: Wait, are we the baddies?
Briefly

Avowed, the new RPG by Obsidian set in the Pillars of Eternity universe, immerses players in themes of colonization and conflict. As the Aedyran envoy in the Living Lands, players face a backdrop of hatred and mistrust from native residents who view their presence as an oppressive force, rather than a hero’s salvation. The game uniquely positions the protagonist not as a classic hero, but as an unwelcome outsider grappling with complex interactions that force a reconsideration of their role and the effects of imperialism.
As the Aedyran envoy, you've been sent to investigate and quell the Dreamscourge, a spreading plague that is poisoning the minds of people and beasts throughout the Living Lands.
Some characters will confront you with that hate right to your face, often with violence. Some will merely mutter it under their breath.
