"Due to volcanic ash caused by Mount Lewotobi in Indonesia, it is currently not safe to operate to and from Bali," stated Australian airline Jetstar, emphasizing the safety concerns surrounding volcanic activity.
"Volcanic ash poses a significant threat to safe operations of the aircraft in the vicinity of volcanic clouds," detailed AirAsia regarding the necessary cancellations amid growing volcanic activity.
Authorities have expanded the danger zone to 9 kilometers as volcanic materials, including smoldering rocks, have been thrown up to 8 kilometers from the crater of Lewotobi volcano.
Since late 2023, the Lewotobi Laki-Laki volcano has had multiple eruptions, leading to fatalities and injuries, and prompting the evacuation of over 11,000 people from nearby areas.
