President Biden has requested more than $98 billion in emergency funding from Congress to assist communities affected by recent natural disasters, highlighting the need for enhanced federal support.
Shalanda Young emphasized that the continuing commitment from the Biden administration is crucial, stating, "It is absolutely critical that these communities know that their government has not forgotten them."
FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell pointed out the unprecedented scale of disasters in 2024, saying, "There have been 172 disaster declarations, compared to 113 the previous year... a 50% increase in disaster activity."
With $40 billion aimed at FEMA's disaster relief fund and $24 billion for USDA support, this initiative underlines the government's response to a significant rise in natural disaster challenges.
