Mayor Jeffrey Bernstein acknowledged the limitations of the settlement, stating, "The truth is we can't right the wrongs in the past. There is no amount of money that can make up for the loss."
Pearl Devers, a former resident of Section 14, commented on the reparations package, saying, "While no amount of money can fully restore what we lost, this agreement helps pave the way for us all to finally move forward."
The advocacy group Section 14 Survivors emphasized that the agreement serves as recognition of the city's role in the destruction of a community, which led to losses for hundreds of residents and their descendants.
