Commanders warned referees can 'award a score' after 4 penalties near goal line in loss to Eagles
Briefly

During the NFC championship game, the Washington Commanders committed four offsides penalties while attempting to counter the Philadelphia Eagles' successful 'tush push' tactic. This series prompted referee Shaun Hochuli to warn that further infractions could result in the Eagles being awarded a touchdown automatically. Despite several attempts by the Commanders' defensive players, including Jonathan Allen and Frankie Luvu, to leap across the line, they ultimately did manage to stay onside, leading to Hurts scoring a 1-yard touchdown immediately after the warning was given, extending the Eagles' lead to 41-23.
"Washington has been advised that referees can award a score if this type of behavior happens again," he told the crowd.
"Simply put, a team can't commit multiple fouls in an effort to prevent the score. So, No. 4 (Luvu) jumped the ball a couple of times, that was when the warning came in," he said.
The Commanders stayed onside on the next play, and Hurts rewarded the Eagles with a 1-yard touchdown for a 41-23 lead.
