In the final days of the 2022 mayoral election, Juarez had a local printing company create and send thousands of mailers to Oakland voters. The mailers attacked Loren Taylor and Ignacio De La Fuente, two of the frontrunners in the mayor's race, calling them frauds and failures and beholden to polluters.
The new court document filed yesterday by the Alameda County District Attorney's office alleges that Juarez was paid $295,000 by two companies with big municipal contracts in October and November. Some of this money was wired just before the anti-Taylor and De La Fuente mailers were sent out.
These companies have valuable contracts with the city of Oakland and an interest in the election of then candidate for mayor, Sheng Thao. Juarez was essentially a conduit for campaign funds which could be linked to electoral bribery.
