De La Salle's basketball team achieved a significant victory by defeating Dougherty Valley 73-43, securing the East Bay Athletic League championship. After facing a surprising defeat only a week prior, the Spartans rapidly bounced back, showcasing a powerful defensive strategy that shut down Dougherty Valley's top scorer. Senior David Balogun led the Spartans with 25 points, while Alec Blair and Bryce Patton contributed significantly as well. Dougherty Valley coach Mike Hansen attributed his team's struggles to missed shots, highlighting De La Salle's dominance in the matchup.
A lot of people have been doubting us ever since we started to lose... We just had a chip on our shoulder and we wanted to prove to people that we were better than what they think we are.
Our inability to make shots is what made it feel like an avalanche... It was just a steady butt whooping.
De La Salle held Dougherty Valley's high-scoring forward UC Davis commit Jalen Stokes to just 13 points and forced 14 Wildcat turnovers.
Earlier in the season, Dougherty Valley defeated the Spartans using a matchup zone that held De La Salle's offense in check. But on Friday night, De La Salle made quick work of Dougherty Valley's zone defense.
