EIB backs GreenLight Biosciences with 35M loan to replace traditional chemical pesticides using power of RNA - Silicon Canals
Briefly

GreenLight Biosciences España, a leader in RNA-based agricultural biotechnology, has secured a significant €35 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB). This financing forms part of the InvestEU initiative, which aims to stimulate investments in sustainable projects. The funds will enable GreenLight to enhance its research and development efforts for innovative products aimed at improving plant and bee health, including pesticides that are safe for beneficial insects. The project will also pave the way for the establishment of a research center in Seville, further supporting sustainable farming practices in Europe.
The agreement is a clear example of how the EIB is stepping up its support for bioeconomy and agriculture, fostering sustainable farming practices and driving innovation across the entire agriculture value chain.
The fund will help develop ribonucleic acid interference (RNAi)-based biocontrols. RNAi-based biocontrols are a sustainable alternative to chemical pesticides and have minimal impact on beneficial insects, honeybees, and soil.
