Epping Forest Council condemns 'shameful' attacks on refuse collectors
Briefly

Recent physical assaults on refuse collectors in Nazeing and Chigwell Row have raised significant concerns, with local officials denouncing the violence as unacceptable. Councillor Ray Balcombe emphasized the dangers and challenges of refuse collection, highlighting the dedication of the staff who provide this essential public service. Two separate incidents involved assaults on workers: one crew was attacked due to a blocked road during collection, and another faced aggression over an accidental spillage. Authorities stress the need for public awareness and respect for these workers, particularly as they consistently maintain high collection efficiency despite ongoing challenges.
Since TVS started collection in November, we have averaged 99.94 per cent collection rates day in and day out.
There will always be occasional spillages, missed collections, and temporary holdups to motorists but there is never an excuse for violent or abusive behaviour.
