Ex-CIA Analyst Pleads Guilty to Sharing Top-Secret Data with Unauthorized Parties
Briefly

Asif William Rahman, a 34-year-old former CIA analyst from Vienna, has pleaded guilty to two counts of willfully transmitting classified national defense information. Employed since 2016 and holding a Top Secret security clearance, Rahman accessed and printed classified documents, later attempting to conceal their source. His illegal activity involved sharing these sensitive materials with unauthorized individuals. He faces a potential 10-year prison sentence after his expected sentencing on May 15, 2025.
In the spring of 2024, the defendant accessed and printed from his workstation approximately five documents. These documents were classified at the Secret and Top Secret level.
From his residence in the Eastern District of Virginia, the defendant reproduced the documents and, while doing so, altered them in an effort to conceal their source and his activity.
