Saker Aviation, which has managed the Downtown Heliport for 18 years, is contesting the recent decision by the city Economic Development Corporation to award the heliport contract to Downtown Skyport LLC, a partnership involving foreign firms. Chairman William Wachtel accused the new operators of making material misrepresentations regarding their background, including concealing serious legal issues. He also challenged their claims of operational experience at Stewart International Airport, asserting that these claims are untrue and that an established operator, AvPORTS, is responsible for that airport's management.
Saker Aviation is urging Comptroller Brad Lander to reject a city contract awarded to Downtown Skyport, citing disqualifying misrepresentations and serious allegations against the replacement group.
Wachtel raised concerns about material misrepresentations regarding felonious activities linked to Groupe ADP, and also disputed claims made by the joint venture about their operational experience.
