Greenland, the world's largest island, is an autonomous part of the Kingdom of Denmark with a population of about 56,000. Its governance is led by Prime Minister Mute Egede, emphasizing the importance of autonomy and local control.
In a New Year speech, Egede stated that it was time for the next step for our country, firmly asserting that Greenland is not for sale amidst increasing pressures for a US takeover.
The 2009 law established Greenland's autonomy under international law, allowing it comprehensive control over domestic matters, including the right to choose full independence from Denmark whenever desired.
Opposition to the US takeover idea is represented by Greenlandic lawmakers, particularly Aaja Chemnitz, highlighting that Greenland's governance and future remain in the hands of Greenland's people.
