During the EU's Economic and Financial Affairs Council in Brussels, Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe stated that he would not reintroduce tax breaks that previously harmed the Irish economy, particularly those linked to housing development. His stance contrasts with statements from his coalition partners who advocate for attracting private investment through tax incentives. Donohoe emphasized the need for stable policies and alternative methods to boost housing supply, ruling out tax incentives that have proved costly in the past, while suggesting revisiting funding and planning frameworks to support homebuilding.
What I'm not going to do is reintroduce or propose the very tax reliefs that did such harm to our economy, and then the building of homes for many years, in Ireland.
We can reconsider where we are with how we fund infrastructure. We can reconsider where we are with our planning frameworks.
