Aerial footage revealed the rapid spread of the flames, as Alain Thomas R. Matias noted that the makeshift homes were constructed from scavenged materials like wood.
Residents fled with their belongings by boat while firefighters struggled to control the blaze; a helicopter was even used to drop water during the emergency.
As a response to the devastation, about 1,000 displaced families are being accommodated in nearby evacuation centers and local schools.
