Florida 'icon' Wise retires as volleyball coach

Mary Wise, the head coach of Florida women's volleyball for 34 years, has announced her retirement, concluding a celebrated career in which she led the Gators to numerous NCAA tournaments, including eight Final Four appearances. With a record of 987-150 at Florida, Wise built one of the strongest programs in the nation, winning 25 Southeastern Conference championships. Her departure follows the retirements of several other prominent coaches at the school, and Wise plans to observe the sport from a new perspective moving forward.
This is such a special place, and there was never going to be an easy time to walk away. But after 43 years in the arena, the time to step away is now.
