Former Greek PM expelled from ruling New Democracy party
Briefly

"Mr. Samaras did not just express opinions. He expressed his complete disagreement with all governing policies. Moreover, he adopted extreme lies (about the foreign minister) in an unbecoming and provocative manner," said government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis, announcing Samaras' expulsion Saturday afternoon.
"Arrogance and loss of nerve explain Mitsotakis' move. Cut off from the party base, he is leading a party that scarcely resembles New Democracy," Samaras stated in response to his expulsion.
Historically, Samaras has frequently clashed with the Mitsotakis family; the last major disagreement led him to leave New Democracy in 1993, causing a significant shift in Greek politics.
Samaras criticized the government's centrist policies, particularly condemning the recent legislation for same-sex marriage, stating it represents a move too far from traditional values.
