DNA analysis has confirmed that human remains recovered on 17 September on open ground in Donabate are those of Daniel Aruebose. An Garda Síochána has commenced a homicide investigation and Gardaí in Swords are investigating all circumstances surrounding the death. Gardaí believe Daniel met his death more than four years ago before his fourth birthday, with his death only becoming known after a standard social welfare check on a children's allowance claim. An extensive almost two-week search on wasteland identified by the parents produced a small amount of remains. Initial post-mortem results were inconclusive. The public is being asked to provide information, with all contacts treated in strict confidence.
