"Ms Dullard was last seen at a phone box in Moone, Co Kildare as she hitched her way home to her native Co Kilkenny in November 1995. Trainee teacher Deirdre Jacob vanished without a trace just yards from her home in Newbridge, Co Kildare in July 1998. Both cases have been upgraded to a murder investigation in recent years and while the cases were initially linked, different suspects have since emerged."
"Last year a suspect was arrested in relation to the murder of Jo Jo Dullard and land near the Wicklow border was searched. However, nothing of evidential value was found and the suspect was released without charge. Today marks a significant development with the announcement of land being searched for both missing women. "This area of land will be searched and subject to excavation, technical and forensic examinations over the coming days," a garda spokesperson said."
Jo Jo Dullard and Deirdre Jacob disappeared in the 1990s from Co Kildare, with Dullard last seen in November 1995 and Jacob vanishing in July 1998. Both disappearances have been upgraded to murder investigations and were initially linked, but different suspects have since emerged. A suspect arrested last year in Dullard's case was released without charge after searches found no evidential material. New searches of land have been announced and will include excavation, technical and forensic examinations. The operation is led by the Serious Crime Review Team with national technical support, and families have been kept updated.
