In a recent appearance on Good Morning Britain, Chancellor Rachel Reeves faced scrutiny over her claims regarding her CV, particularly about her tenure at the Bank of England. Host Richard Madeley pointed out that Reeves claimed to have worked there for a decade, but she had only worked six years, spending one year on her Master's degree. Madeley further challenged her job history, noting that former colleagues described her role at a Scottish bank as largely administrative, contributing to her nickname "Rachel from Accounts." Reeves maintained pride in her previous roles despite the criticisms.
Madeley asked Rachel from Accounts live on TV, "You said you've worked at the Bank of England for a decade. In fact, it was only six years, and one of those years was at the London School of Economics doing a Master's course. So that's five years and not a decade."
"But according to your former colleagues in your actual job, you actually worked in a support department at Scottish bank, and you sort of helped out with admin and it and that's all earned you the nickname of Rachel from accounts."
Reeves who was clearly flustered stuttered in her response and said, "I'm really proud of the jobs that I did before I became a member of parliament," as she went through her job history.
Madeley asked, "Why did you say that you worked at the Bank of England for a decade, when, in fact it was, well, it wasn't even six years. It was five. I mean, that's exaggeration, isn't it?"
