The Blue Note Jazz Club, established in 1981, is a cherished venue in Greenwich Village that prioritizes artist comfort and audience intimacy. Director Alex Kurland emphasizes the club's commitment to both established and emerging musicians by providing a supportive performance environment. This approach allows artists to engage with their craft over multiple nights or short residencies, enhancing their connection to the New York music scene. The club aims to create an artist-led experience, ensuring each performance resonates deeply with audiences while giving musicians a true sense of home on stage.
"The Blue Note feels like a home for artists and making it a really comfortable performance space and like a home type of vibe," said Alex Kurland, Director of Programming.
"Artists who come and play the Blue Note will often do multiple nights or short residencies to allow themselves to fully immerse themselves into... New York City's music scene as a whole."
"Having a home base where artists feel like it is very artistically supported, that's what's really important to us," Kurland added.
"We are adamant about making sure each show is an artist-led experience, which often means holding multiple shows for an artist or group."
