High tides and storms damage Solano County levees
Briefly

The Solano County Office of Emergency Services declared a Local Emergency due to levee damage in the Suisun Marsh and Sacramento San-Joaquin River delta, urging state intervention.
Recent storms combined with king tides caused significant damage to levees, leading to flooding of Van Sickle Island, highlighting the vulnerability of our levee infrastructure.
Chris Lanzafame noted that the levee at Van Sickle Island experienced a 150-foot breach due to the storm, even after recent repairs from previous flooding.
The combination of high winds, rainfall, and king tides has worsened the situation, with the county asking for efforts to address these ongoing challenges as soil remains saturated.
