Historian claims Sutton Hoo burials were NOT for royals
Briefly

For nearly 100 years, Sutton Hoo was presumed a royal burial site. However, Dr. Helen Gittos proposes that the graves actually belonged to British soldiers sent to fight for the Byzantine Empire, who brought back distinctive goods after their campaigns.
Dr. Gittos explains that the early medieval soldiers recruited from Britain into the Byzantine army fought the Sasanians around AD 575, and upon their return, they brought metalwork and distinctive goods. This challenges long-held beliefs about the site's significance and opens a 'startlingly new view into early medieval English history.'
