Ubuntu Mate, a familiar yet modern Linux distribution, has just released version 24.10, based on Ubuntu 24.10. The latest iteration incorporates Mate 1.26.2, emphasizing stability amid slow development. Notable improvements include enhanced Wayland support for key applications such as Atril and Pluma, with Pluma introducing a new minimap feature and grid background. The design flips traditional layouts by placing the main menu at the top, making it accessible for users new to Linux, while overall performance enhancements continue to ensure a solid working environment for all users.
Although Ubuntu Mate flips tradition on its head (with the main panel at the top), it couldn't possibly be any easier to use.
This latest release was actually made available just a few months ago (Oct. 2024), but it's certainly newer than the last time I checked out this Linux distribution.
Mate development is slow; the side effect of that is Mate is also very stable.
The headline is Wayland support for several key components like Atril, System Monitor, Pluma, and Terminal.
