Incumbent Albin Kurti favored as Kosovo elects parliament DW 02/09/2025
Briefly

As parliamentary elections unfolded in Kosovo, Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s left-wing Vetevendosje party is projected to garner the most votes. However, it is not anticipated to secure a majority in the 120-seat Assembly. With about 2 million eligible voters, the elections are significant for ethnic representation, as 20 seats are reserved for minority groups. Kurti's administration has aggressively acted to curtail Serbian influence in predominantly Albanian Kosovo, which has drawn criticism from ethnic Serbs and international observers, amidst concerns about regional destabilization in the Balkans.
Kurti's government has sought to strengthen Kosovo's institutions and enact economic reforms such as a higher minimum wage and subsidies for women and children.
The election will determine who fills the 120 seats of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, with 20 reserved for minority ethnic groups.
Kurti has also sought to stamp out Serbian institutions in ethnic Albanian-majority Kosovo, angering ethnic Serbians and escalating tensions between Kosovo and Serbia.
The center-right Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), led by Bedri Hamza, is the top opposition party focused on boosting Kosovo's economy and repairing ties with the US and EU.
