Harwinder Singh's attempted migration to the US turned into a life-threatening ordeal lasting more than seven months. After paying a significant sum for legal passage, he traveled through multiple countries using dangerous routes informally known as the 'donkey route.' Throughout his journey, Singh faced treacherous conditions, subsisting on little food and witnessing multiple deaths among fellow migrants. The US Border Patrol eventually detained him during his final approach, leading to his deportation back to India, leaving him devastated after risking his life and fortune for the chance at a better future.
"But instead, I traveled through Qatar, Brazil, Peru, Colombia, Panama, Nicaragua and Mexico, sometimes under precarious conditions, hoping to reach the US, the land of opportunity."
"I saw another die in the Panama jungle," said Singh. "I feel devastated after risking everything, money, and my life, only to face failure."
