Inside the world's first nuclear waste 'tomb' costing $4 BILLION
Briefly

Finland's Onkalo project, a monumental $4 billion nuclear waste repository, is designed to safely house 6,500 tons of uranium waste for 100,000 years.
Each waste canister measures about 17 feet long and weighs two tons, encapsulated in copper and surrounded by bentonite clay to prevent contamination.
The Onkalo facility features a six-mile network of tunnels and will use 3,250 copper canisters buried deep underground, a first for high-level nuclear disposal.
Unlike many countries that manage low and medium-level nuclear waste, Finland's approach with Onkalo establishes a precedent for the final disposal of high-level spent fuel.
