The Worcester City Council has passed a resolution designating the city a ‘sanctuary’ for transgender and nonbinary individuals, emphasizing the importance of safety and access to gender-affirming healthcare. This decision, advocated by local resident Allie Cislo, arises as a response to federal actions perceived as threats to the LGBTQIA+ community. The resolution ensures that city resources will not support any detainment for gender-affirming care and reinforces the city's commitment to equal protections against discrimination.
"The trans, nonbinary, and LGBTQIA+ community in Worcester and nationally are being attacked by President Trump," Cislo said in the resolution.
"No city resources...or city property, shall be utilized for detaining persons for solely seeking or providing gender-affirming care," the resolution states.
