Blue Origin, founded by Jeff Bezos, is undergoing significant layoffs affecting about 10% of its workforce, approximately 1,400 employees out of 14,000. The announcement was made during a brief all-hands meeting led by CEO Dave Limp, who indicated that despite some recent successes, the company wasn't structured for the long-term success it aspires to achieve. He referenced the launch of the New Glenn rocket earlier this year as a point of recent achievement, but emphasized the need for difficult decisions to align with future goals.
In the memo, CEO Dave Limp stated: "There's no easy way to communicate this... when you look at the foundation of the company... we just came to the painful conclusion that we aren't set up for the kind of success that we really wanted to have."
Limp mentioned, "There's no question that we've had a lot of successes over the last few months." He referred specifically to the successful launch of the New Glenn rocket in January.
