In his memoir, Josh Gad shares his experience of auditioning for a part in James Cameron's Avatar. Desperate to leave his current commitment, Gad pursued a role as Jake Sully's best friend and was flown out for a callback after a successful audition. However, despite Cameron's initial excitement over his performance, issues arose during the digitization process where Gad's appearance was likened to a tall, overweight Smurf, leading to his ultimate rejection from the film.
"I put myself on tape and shortly thereafter got a call that Cameron wanted to fly me to Los Angeles for a final callback at his Lightstorm production offices."
