JPL Director Laurie Leshin announced approximately 325 layoffs, accounting for about 5% of the workforce, as the laboratory navigates ongoing funding concerns.
The workforce assessment was extensive, and although future insights aren't perfect, Leshin believes these layoffs will stabilize the workforce going forward.
The layoffs will affect nearly all areas of the lab, involving technical, project, business, and support sectors, reflecting a need to address dynamic funding challenges.
Leshin expressed that this will likely be the final workforce reduction needed for the foreseeable future, predicting a stable staffing level post-layoffs.
